About Us

  Finn Farm View

We are enthusiastic dog owners. We are fortunate to live in a typical English village high in the Chiltern Hills of Buckinghamshire about twenty miles west of London.

It is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. We and our dogs enjoy the freedom of the open fields, woodland and many footpaths.

We have imported the first Portuguese Sheepdogs into mainland Britain. It took a year of searching, planning and waiting and it was worth it. Funfun Pikku Hiawatha came to us from Paivi Metsatalo in Finland in August 2006. Nespera do Casal da Vinha arrived from Manuel Correia in Portugal in January 2007. We chose these particular breeders because of their expertise and knowledge of the Serra.  Manuel is an FCI International Judge and expert in the breed.  Our dogs are from excellent bloodlines, their parents and grandparents achieved champion status.

Portuguese Sheepdogs are of particular interest to those who love long-haired dogs such as the beardie or briard. Our first dogs many years ago, were Afghan Hounds. When they died we discovered the briard. We had glorious dogs thanks to the kennels of Nancy Tomlin of Desamee, Ruth Bumstead of Baldslow and Chris James of Wychbold. Nearly thirty years later we looked again for a new breed. We wanted to keep the engaging qualities of the briard but to find dogs perhaps smaller in size and with less demanding coats. We found the Serra which, interestingly, includes the briard in its ancestry.   We became expert in DEFRAs rules and regulations to import dogs. We are keen to have the breed recognised by the British Kennel Club.
